Semiotics blog task
1) From the beginning the audience are encouraged to see the characters in a stereotypical light, the mise-en-scene supports the judgements made from what they're environment and clothes. This myth presented them as "gangstas/hoodlums".... However they could also be seen as a curious bunch of people since they simply play around with a harmonica that someone dropped. This slowly reels the audience to thinking that these characters shouldn't be taken at face value and how culture has shaped our way of thinking when we see certain signs.
2)By the end of the short film they truly emphasise how signs can be polysemic, the boys may be wandering around in urban areas dressed in these stereotypical ways but they do not act the way that we would expect. These characters subvert these expectations by they're silent actions-which we later find out the reasons because of this is that they're both deaf. They have the opportunity for petty revenge against the old drunken man that wronged them but they simply replace his rotten food with fresh new bananas.

1) The two parts that make up a sign are the signifier and the signified.
2) Polysemy means multiple meanings.
3) Signs can be naturalised as culture embeds itself into a object or person.
4) The 5 narrative codes that barthes has: cultural code, symbolic code, enigma code, referential code and proairetic code.
Icon index and symbols
1) An icon is the person or thing being perceived by the audience (literal meaning).
The symbol is something that is culturally learned and has no relationship between the signifier and signified.
2) Indexes help the audience understand the subliminal messages of the icon. (e.g smoke = fire)
3) Global brands might attempt to avoid symbols as they can also be stereotypical and may give of the wrong message they want.

The index they present is very passive aggressive towards the public library system. They evoked too much emotion in there text which makes Airbnb seem childish.5)
The way the cokes are organised themselves is almost as if its a family. This is reinforced by the names on the Coke being random, whether or not its your name doesn't matter as in the end your sharing it with someone else. The bottles themselves start to feel more personal due to this and adds another degree of appreciation for the product.
