Narrative

1) A film that supports Todorov's narrative structure is I, Robot. The equilibrium is during the time Del Spooner is just doing his job as a homicide detective, the disequilibrium would be when they realise the robots are being controlled by VIKI and try to fight against them. The new equilibrium would be at the end where they defeated VIKI the robots have become passive again. 2) The Originals Pilot 1x1 The opening scene tells us this was set 300 years ago but this historical marker is reinforced by the clothes they wear and the way they speak. A geological marker is also found here as the scene is set on the Mississippi River which is located in the united states. Additionally the generic marker is easily evident as the we see the graphic deaths of 3 men from these vampires showing the audience that this is a fantasy horror from the start. 3) The characters that fit Todorov's hero role are: Superman- From Man of steel Annie January- The Boys Luke Skywalker- Star Wars 4)An exa

Genre task

 1) The example given to prove why iconography is an important part in genre was Western type films and Western type shows since they share the same elements to make both these types of media recognisable to the audience regardless of they're differences.  2) When using narrative to identify a genre you need to look more into detail to find the choices and options while looking as to why they made it. Did the majority of a certain genre also make these decisions as well. An example for this would be when reading a magazine or newspaper (one is more light hearted and the other is more political/serious) 3) The difference between action movie heroes and disaster movie heroes is that action heroes are mostly isolated from other characters while the disaster hero will be within a group of people standing out and taking this role. They also collaborate to survive there current ordeal but the action hero is usually shown to be a lone wolf type of character. 4) Bordwell categorized films

Reception Theory

 1) The preferred reading for this image is that we should accept what we are and embrace your lifestyle by buying the RBK shoes. Also our backgrounds and culture are things we cant change. This reading would accept these messages sent by the producer and decode them the way in which they were intended. The Oppositional Reading is that we determine who we are not our background or past, we have the ability to change who and what we are. Culture doesn't define us and we shouldn't need to buy shoes from RBK to discover this. It could also be justifying a criminal lifestyle which enables this type of behaviour inside the black community. This reading would reject the messages given to us once we decode the intended meanings The negotiated reading would be that having an understanding of what you have at the current moment isn't a bad thing but awareness of yourself  and what you should be grateful for can help to change what you are and who you will be tomorrow. Its message is

50 Cent RBK Advert Denotation: 50 cent staring towards the viewer with finger prints plastered on the right side of the advert. A quote is placed in the top right corner. RBK uses 50 Cent as celebrity endorsement for there products so that they can attract consumers and complement there own there own brand. Connotation/Subject matter: 50 cent represents the hardships that people on the streets go through everyday, he relates to what those people have been through so it would make sense to have him promote there shoes. The finger prints show a sign of criminality emerging and mistakes never being forgotten. This tagline "I Am What I Am"is polysemic and can be interpreted as people bringing forth a sense of pride in ones identity as accepting yourself and embracing it brings forth true change. However, it could also be seen as 50 Cent telling the audience that you cant change who are no matter how much you try to outrun it which people obviously might not agree with. Colour/L
