50 Cent RBK Advert
Denotation: 50 cent staring towards the viewer with finger prints plastered on the right side of the advert. A quote is placed in the top right corner. RBK uses 50 Cent as celebrity endorsement for there products so that they can attract consumers and complement there own there own brand.Connotation/Subject matter: 50 cent represents the hardships that people on the streets go through everyday, he relates to what those people have been through so it would make sense to have him promote there shoes. The finger prints show a sign of criminality emerging and mistakes never being forgotten. This tagline "I Am What I Am"is polysemic and can be interpreted as people bringing forth a sense of pride in ones identity as accepting yourself and embracing it brings forth true change. However, it could also be seen as 50 Cent telling the audience that you cant change who are no matter how much you try to outrun it which people obviously might not agree with.
Colour/Lightning: The monochrome esque form they chose for the advert brings forth a much more serious tone and makes sure the audience takes this as a dire message. It could also symbolise how black and white things can be in life when you live a life like this. The lightning is clear enough to recognise core features but the rest is cast in shadow.
Pose: 50 cent looks straight towards the audience using a more visual type of direct address to get his message across to everyone and anyone whose reading this.
Composition: The face of 50 cent is the first thing people see. This is probably due to how famous he is which makes it easy to catch peoples attention through star power. Possibly, the next next thing people see is the two texts put onto the advert. This could show RBK's priorities when it comes to promotion if you consider the fact that they mainly focus on 50 cents face and his quote rather then displaying there latest shoes.
Type of shot: It seems like a medium close up. Far enough so we can see some of his clothes and close enough to see his facial expression and for audiences to recognise him.
