Audience Theory 19.11.20

1)
  • Call Of Duty Modern warfare: 16 Years old. The game depicts war in a graphic but glorified way. Consumers know what the content inside holds but a lot of the time younger ages play these games for fun and enjoyment as well.
  • Zelda Links awakening: 8 Years old. This game is a child friendly fantasy adventure that does have violence just not to the degree or extent of Call of Duty or Red Dead which also have action/violence within its contents.
  • Red Dead Redemption: 18 Years old: This game contains brutal gameplay with nothing being held back. It goes into more detail with its violence giving it a more realistic effect then Call of duty has or most other action/violent games.
  • Pokemon: 8 years old: This game is targeted to younger audience with vibrant and colourful gameplay with violence having less of an impact.
  • Kim Kardashian Hollywood: 10 Years old: This game tries to introduce the consumer to the lifestyle of a Hollywood model and tries to display the glamourous lifestyle of a celebrity. Its only higher then games like pokemon and zelda because it tries to be more realistic.
2) The hyperdermic needle theory may be relevant today as people nowadays are panicking over almost anything said in the news due to the severity of things especially with Covid-19 and some people not taking it seriously.

3) The problem with the hyperdermic needle theory is that it suggests that audiences are always passive when consuming media and that we accept any and all information given to us by producers. Which is only partly true as people can be passive but theres also the possibility that people are actively against the information given to them.

4)The two-step model is definitely still relevant and it also has a more prominent presence in society as a whole with idols/mentors being active on social media platforms like celebrities or political people (Donald Trump) spouting there opinion.

7) Digital technology has made accessing media extremely easy and with almost everyone being able to use this technology its become very easy for people to become dependent on it for information. This isn't a problem as its just society progressively making new and inventive ways to communicate with each other and the higher ups in the world.

8)I think the media has a positive impact on peoples lives as its made important communication so much easier with a variety of ways to spread information. Media can make us feel emotions but in the end thats dependant on people in general and whether or not they're an active or passive part of that audience.
