Introduction to Feminism

Everyday Sexism   1) Laura Bates started the everyday sexism project due to her getting sexually harassed on several occasions and she realised this was also common for other women but nobody spoke out on it as it became normalised 2) The everyday sexism project links to the concept of post feminism as it contradicts the idea that feminism isn't needed currently. By allowing people to talk about they're experiences shows people that sexism is still an issue for society that needs to be dealt with not ignored. 3) New technology was essential for this as it allows women from across the world to express they're difficulties with people due to sexism. New technology essentially gave everybody a platform so that they can be heard. 4) Hopefully there will a point where the everyday sexism project isn't required but personally I doubt that they will come. Media Regulation MIGRAIN

 1) Regulation are rules enforced onto media so that organisations and businesses cant operate in there own sectors to there devices. These rules attempt to make them operate fairly. There are several regulatory that exist to monitor the way industries work. 2)OFCOM  (Office of communication) is responsible for broadcasting of media (TV and radio). 3) I believe the 3 most important sections of OFCOM's broadcasting code is  Fairness: as I believe that broadcasters should treat individuals and the industry in this way so that we aren't deceived. Protecting under 18s: To ensure that the youth aren't influenced wrongly by the media. Introduction to representation

 1) Representation is an important concept as it allows media to be re-presented through a different perspective and interpreted from a new lens. 2) The Kate Middleton example shows how the images if put in a certain order can create and fit the editors narrative. They can create this meaning through its re-presentation. 3) When analysing representation producers consider: The target audiences expectations Limitations from genre codes Institutional remit. The narrative they wish to create. Representations are the cumulative effect of a number of media language choices. Public Service Broadcasting

 OFCOM 1) TV viewing is changing as people have begun viewing content from different platforms/devices. 2) People aged 16-24 seemed to be watching less (1 hours 54 minutes) TV then viewers aged 65+(5 hours 44 minutes). Also between 2015 and 2016 the daily average of people watching television seemed to decrease by 10 minutes. 3) The report suggests that viewers are satisfied with PSB as it says 78% of people claim to be happy with its service. 75% of people agreed that the PSB news channels are trustworthy, 77% of people believed that PSB programmes helped them to understand the world around them better, 75% of people said that PSB channels provided good quality news about there area. 4) In 2016 PSB channels spent a total of 2.6 billion on UK originated content.
