Audience Theory 1 hypodermic etc

 Hypodermic

1) The article about playing violent video games relates to this theory as it suggests that people are injected with information from the media. As such the theory states that this information can be dangerous and in this case would make children more violent.

2) The Daily Mail newspaper might have been criticised that they focus on insignificant parts of their life like them spending most of there time in there room playing video games. The newspaper highlights on these parts of his life rather than the fact that a teenager was able to hack a phone giant. This links to the theory as the boy could have been a passive consumer till they were injected with a dangerous type of media.

3) I believe that the hypodermic needle theory underestimates peoples capability of rebelling/disagreeing with certain media that they have been injected/consumed. Audiences can be passive, active or even be aware of both sides a producer is trying to make.

Two Step Flow

1) The two step flow is about opinion leaders influencing the audiences decisions just like the media is. This requires people to idolise someone which makes them respect there opinion over others.

2) Manny Mue is a youtuber who tests and reviews make ups and gives his opinion about each one to his audience. Manny's audience come to him for advice on what he believes to be the best make up product and most likely prioritise his opinion over there own.

3) Filmmaker Jamal Edwards links to the Two Step Flow model as people can relate to him through his background and might be inspired to be just like him. Hes young and a successful filmmaker so people also inspiring to be one would gravitate towards him and respect his opinion.

Uses and Gratifications Theory

1)

  • Diversion: Star Wars- It immerses you in a whole new world with a new environment, creatures and technology including its fictional abilities.
  • Personal Relationships: The middle- A show about a family going through life and difficulties between each member.
  • Personal Identity- Doctor Who- Has an ensemble of characters that accompany the protagonist that people are able to relate and see themselves in.
  • Surveillance: Blue planet- Shows us the expansive world we have under the sea. Giving audiences a clear look at the majestic aquatic animals

Dependency theory

1) I believe people have become dependant on the media and consuming its information. People nowadays use the internet to communicate with others through social media or gain news through outlets online due to the fact that its easier this way. Rather then talk to people in person people will chat on snapchat/whatsapp or another example would be that people can look up the news on Youtube or listen to journalists on Twitter.

2) The development of new technology has only made people even more dependant on media with everything being accessible at the touch of a button from our phones, laptops, computers etc. Such a thing like this allows people to always be connected to the media throughout our lives in some shape way or form.

3)I believe the media i consume has both a positive and a negative impact on my life. Media effects my life in both ways and not just in one distinctive manor. Media platforms make life a whole lot more easier to get through and allows us to communicate in several different ways (like through blogger to do complete work or Youtube to get entertainment). However its pretty easier to get encapsulated by this virtual world and its very easy for me to get sucked up into it and be a bit obsessive. Media isn't inherently bad its more of a temptation that we now constantly have to deal with now and try our best not to be influenced by it to the point of just being impaired by it.
