Introduction to Feminism

Everyday Sexism   1) Laura Bates started the everyday sexism project due to her getting sexually harassed on several occasions and she realised this was also common for other women but nobody spoke out on it as it became normalised 2) The everyday sexism project links to the concept of post feminism as it contradicts the idea that feminism isn't needed currently. By allowing people to talk about they're experiences shows people that sexism is still an issue for society that needs to be dealt with not ignored. 3) New technology was essential for this as it allows women from across the world to express they're difficulties with people due to sexism. New technology essentially gave everybody a platform so that they can be heard. 4) Hopefully there will a point where the everyday sexism project isn't required but personally I doubt that they will come. Equality is a very difficult goal to achieve as sadly there will always be people who have twisted views and perceptions on...

Media Regulation MIGRAIN

 1) Regulation are rules enforced onto media so that organisations and businesses cant operate in there own sectors to there devices. These rules attempt to make them operate fairly. There are several regulatory that exist to monitor the way industries work. 2)OFCOM  (Office of communication) is responsible for broadcasting of media (TV and radio). 3) I believe the 3 most important sections of OFCOM's broadcasting code is  Fairness: as I believe that broadcasters should treat individuals and the industry in this way so that we aren't deceived. Protecting under 18s: To ensure that the youth aren't influenced wrongly by the media. Harm and offense: Nobody should be condoning horrific acts of violence to people 4) I dont agree with OFCOM that channel 4 was wrong to broadcast Wolverine at 6:55 as I believe the film was mostly all flash and no substance. The violence within the film was mostly only impressionistic but had some scenes graphic content. 5) 5 sections from the old...

Introduction to representation

 1) Representation is an important concept as it allows media to be re-presented through a different perspective and interpreted from a new lens. 2) The Kate Middleton example shows how the images if put in a certain order can create and fit the editors narrative. They can create this meaning through its re-presentation. 3) When analysing representation producers consider: The target audiences expectations Limitations from genre codes Institutional remit. The narrative they wish to create. Representations are the cumulative effect of a number of media language choices. Naturalisation of ideas actually acts to hide there ideology from view as they attempt to make it common sense so we don't recognise it or overthink it. 4) Stuart Halls theory of preferred and oppositional readings fits into representation as the audience may accept certain ideologies that they're presented with and agree on its outlook or they might reject this media text and its meaning despite understanding wh...

Audience theory 2

1) Social learning theory has been criticised for simplifying the causes of violence in society. Do you think the media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence? I don't think the media is responsible for violence or anti social behaviour as people don't just consume the media blindly for it to effect that in this way. People are violent due to other factors in there life but vicariously learning behaviour does play a factor just not as big or important as i think social learning theory does. 2) How is social learning theory relevant in the digital age? Are young people now learning behaviour from social media and the internet? Give examples. In this digital age people have access to the internet and social media at young ages and sometimes can be unsupervised. A child may adopt certain behaviour through social media where they might gain a bad role model who they want to aspire to be. 3) Research three examples of moral panic from the last 50 years. To what extent...

Audience Theory 19.11.20

1) Call Of Duty Modern warfare: 16 Years old. The game depicts war in a graphic but glorified way. Consumers know what the content inside holds but a lot of the time younger ages play these games for fun and enjoyment as well. Zelda Links awakening: 8 Years old. This game is a child friendly fantasy adventure that does have violence just not to the degree or extent of Call of Duty or Red Dead which also have action/violence within its contents. Red Dead Redemption: 18 Years old: This game contains brutal gameplay with nothing being held back. It goes into more detail with its violence giving it a more realistic effect then Call of duty has or most other action/violent games.  Pokemon: 8 years old: This game is targeted to younger audience with vibrant and colourful gameplay with violence having less of an impact.  Kim Kardashian Hollywood: 10 Years old: This game tries to introduce the consumer to the lifestyle of a Hollywood model and tries to display the glamourous lifestyle...

Social Learning Theory

1) 1 = Agree with the most. 4 = disagree with the most Uses and Gratifications Theory Two step flow model Hyperdermic needle Theory Dependency theory  2) 1 = agree with the most. 10 = disagree with the most 1. The real people in our life (friends, family) will always have far more influence over us than something we see on the internet 2.Trying to restrict media products from certain audiences is impossible in the digital age 3.Primary school children shouldn’t be playing ultra-realistic violent videogames due to the psychological effects on their developing minds 4.People who commit horrendous crimes such as gun massacres would be violent regardless of the media they consume 5.Audiences are more intelligent and less easily led than Bandura’s social learning theory suggests 6.Social learning theory demonstrates why age restrictions on media products are so important 7.Taking out your aggression on videogames such as Call of Duty or GTA means you are less likely to commit violent ac...
